David Spaeth inevitably immersed himself in his own world of photography not only because of his unconditional love for death metal, but also because of his clear view of the finality of a moment and his view of death and excess. During his stay in London he sharpened his instinct on the one hand and refined his imagination on the other. Using absurd ideas and curious inspiration, he managed to capture his own pictures, "from the edge of madness", on a celluloid tape. David currently lives in the Stuttgart mountains. His good eye is not only expressed in galleries within Germany, his art is also exhibited in studios around the country and can be admired by different eyes.

When and how did you get the idea for “Where in the World am I?”?

The book came to existence during the year 2015. The basic idea of the book is the trial to unite all of my ideas and thoughts and to unify these within a single publication.

What fascinates you most about photography?

It doesn't matter what I do and when I start. I am a human-being who has to see a result. I cannot work abstract or virtual. I want an outcome that I am able to touch. Besides I am a really impatient person. Due to this fact, photography is the best way for me to convert my conceptions. In a short period of time I can create something that may be monumentality. Additionally, I am not a dreamer. I need the relation to reality in my work, which is incorporated in by the medium.

HOW DOES THE SUPPORT OF OTHER PEOPLE INFLUENCE YOUR WORK?

Honestly, it's a long list of people who supported me during the process. For every single project of mine I was asking many allies and companions to participate. It’s always more fun! But the most important guys who were involved in „Where in the world am I?“ were definitely Dimitri Schmidgall, Sascha Hérisson and Prof. Dr. Thomas Sattig, who is a professor for theoretical philosophy at the University of Tübingen.

What are the biggest challenges in making books?

An unbending will!!

And how did you master them?

With this very will!

Do you have a favorite double page in the book?

Actually, it doesn't exist a favorite pageof mine. In principle the book consists of several frames. Therein the thought of hierarchy is difficult for me to tell.

What new print project do you plan to do next?

If I am asked that way, by thinking about the creation of books, I guess the time has already come to approach a new one now…
